Announced late May, Sanyo’s new Xacti DMX-CA100, also known as VPC-CA100 in North America, is what many of us have been waiting for quite sometime now. Approved IPX8, the Sanyo Xacti CA100 calmly lets down underwater to a depth of 3m.
Models from many big-name manufacturers are sporting the latest water-resistant designs, including Kodak’s PlaySport and JVC’s Picsio GC-WP10. The Xacti VPC-CA100 from Sanyo is the latest device to come dressed in its own swimwear, but it bucks a few other trends at the same time. Sanyo shuns the candybar look that’s currently very popular among mini camcorders in favour of Sanyo’s preferred pistol-grip styling. It’s also a little harder on the pocket than some, in terms of size, weight and price (around £280 online).
Hybride, the Sanyo Xacti CA100 can both take pictures and shoot 14-megapixel HD video in Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels at a rate of 30p or 60i. Encoded in MPEG-4 with H.264, you can store four hours of full HD video quality on a 32GB memory card. Moreover, the Sanyo Xacti CA100 accepts SD, SDHC or SDXC, the new standard that we are promised that one day reach 2 TB of storage space. Note that this hybrid camcorder is also compatible with the Eye-Fi cards. Finally, the dual function allows shot, when recording video, taking pictures on the fly without interrupting the movie.
