Thought I’d start this post to share my experience rescuing videos I accidentally deleted. Here’s the method thats worked for me, maybe others have a better method you can share ?
I first purchased a hard drive recovery program from Mareew, which I use in the “Hard drive” recovery mode to search the camcorders drive for “lost files” after doing the “USB Connect” to the HD. After chugging away scanning the entire drive it will come up with a list of lost files of the form “****.m2ts” which are the video stream files…the only headache now is that there is no way of identifying these by time or date – the only thing differentiating the files is the number and their size. The Mareew software’s “file preview” function does not work for some reason.
You must now save these files in a folder that Sony’s Picture Motion Browser (PMB) can use – the Mareew software will automatically dump them into a subdirectory of that called “Recovered files” or something. ( NOTE: be modest on how many ones you pick at a time – it takes a lot of time even to recover one video file. The other day I picked 8 files that averaged 500MB to 1GB MB each and it took almost the entire day to bring them into my Sony VAIO !!! )
Now you might have to register the recovery folder in PMB as one that holds media files. Then, run a “Database Update” under the tools menu, and the videos should now show up ! You can now rename, burn them to DVD-R or convert them as needed.
If you want to know how to edit these MTS files, click MTS to mpeg, MTS to avi
I’ve deleted a few videos that my wife wants back. I have not used the camcorder since then. Do you know of any other data recovery programs that work? I’m kinda really broke and am looking for a free or really cheap one. Thanks
I have the same Sony HDR-SR11.
