Flip have released their newest handheld camcorder

Flip have released their newest handheld camcorder the Slide HD, complete with 3 inch touchscreen pop-up display and 16GB of memory.

There have been a succession of rumours and leaks regarding the next Flip camcorder over the past week or so, now all has been revealed with an announcement from Cisco, makers of the Flip product line, who have officially unveiled the new Flip Slide HD to the world.

So what is it? Well you may have seen the Flip Mino, which we reported on a couple of week ago, the Flip Slide HD is basically the same camera but with lots of added extras such as a pop-up 3 inch display, double the memory (16GB) and resistive touch screen functionality. The screen is an inch bigger than the Flip Mino’s 2 inch equivalent, it still uses the same interface, but the buttons on the Slide HD are displayed in touch screen form rather than the physical buttons included on the Mino.

The Slide HD is equipped with HMDI out for connection to LCD TVs, Blu-ray players etc, so that you can view your masterpieces on the big screen! There are stereo speakers built-in which is a great feature and it also has a headphone jack for those descreet moments, such as when you’re sitting on the plane home watching back your holiday hijinks.

The 720p video quality is exactly the same as you get with the smaller Flip Mino, however the Slide’s 16GB of memory means you can store up to twice as much footage, up to 12 hours in fact. (compressed footage that is)

The Slide HD is available now in the US for $279 in a selection of funky case designs. Alternatively you can add you own custom photo to be printed on the Slide HD, or use their custom pattern generator to design your own case. Last but not least is a plain old white case if your not that bothered about being too flashy with your camcorder. All of these options are available at theflip.com.

We have two of the Mino cameras already and we will most certainly be adding at least one Slide HD to our collection based on these impressive specs. A UK release date for the Slide HD is yet to be announced, so we’ll have to wait a little longer than our US counterparts before we can get hold of one.
